EJ Shu - Poet
EJ Shu is an Australian-Canadian writer of poetry and libretti. Born in Narrm/Melbourne, EJ has lived and worked on both sides of the Pacific as a writer, researcher, educator and consultant to the community and public sectors. She makes her home on the north west coast of Tasmania.
I am currently developing a book-length collection of poetry that explores the science-poetry relation. The collection responds to and reworks text from the scientific archive, exploring subject matter as diverse as marine species migration, micrometeorites and the Cassini-Huygens mission to Saturn.
Support for this project has been provided in the form of a Career Development Grant from the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.
My short stories, nonfiction and poetry have appeared in various periodicals and anthologies in Australia, the US and UK.
I have also written for video and live music production, and have worked as a script editor and documentary researcher in broadcast television and independent film. Among my qualifications are a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature (Charles Sturt) and postgraduate degrees in the social sciences. I am currently completing an Honours degree in creative writing (Deakin).
In addition to my creative practice, I run a social impact consultancy, The Social Yield Pty Ltd.
